FAMILY
The curator’s father, Tom George Heartfield, idolized his father. Tom and John them lived together for two years in Prague under the constant threat from Nazi assassination squads. Tom emigrated to America and joined the American Armed Forces to fight his countrymen. Jonny and Tom were always emotionally bound together. Tom named his first son, Malik, after Jonny’s publishing house. Malik did not survive infancy. Tom supported Jonny, sending him money whenever possible. For more about the relation between the artist and his son, see Questions For Heartfield’s Grandson.
