Helmut Herzfeld’s Mother, Alice Stolzenberg, 1867-1911, Textile Worker, Political Activist. Alice Stolzenberg gave birth to Helmut Herzfeld (known as John Heartfield) on June 19, 1891. John Heartfield, director of the Military Education Film Service (later called the UFA). Was dismissedin 1919 for calling for a strike after the murder of Liebknecht and Luxemburg. This is one of my favorite photos of Johnny. An original print rests on our mantle at home.
