<< HEARTFIELD CHRONOLOGY – ALL YEARS1957 1958 1960 1962 1964 1968

“[John …] was a painter. For him, like me, art
was the only thing that gave life
meaning and value.
He regarded the war as a crime.
He hated everyone who shouted hurrah
and hung banners from the windows,
and felt akin to those who suffered and bled.”
